Pope Phoenix is a visual artist from The Bronx, New York. His work is vibrant, colorful, and intriguing. Inspired by music, animation, and comic books, his creations emerge from the digital realm of vectors and nodes. His relentless pursuit of bringing life to a digital medium sets his work apart from his contemporaries. Looking into the eyes of his portraits allows you to connect with the subject and find a bit of yourself.
His career started in graphic design during the age of Napster and CD-ROMs. He watched the analog world fade as it was uploaded into the cloud, transforming into a new digital form. During this time, he embraced the change and fell in love with vector illustration, adopting the mantle of Digital Mercenary. Known for completing projects no one else could while maintaining high quality, he embodies Jay-Z's line, “Difficult takes a day, impossible takes a week.”
This level of quality has led the Digital Mercenary to work with IBM, PBS, ESSENCE, OKAYPLAYER, BET, Affinity by Serif, and Comic Relief, since focusing strictly on illustration.
